I finally got some decent wheels for it, Mavic Ksyriums in silver. I wanted black, but the more I look at it, the more I like these. I couldn't not buy them at the price that was being asked. However, still some things I'm not happy with, like the stem, and the brake levers.
You probably can't see it, but I've got some black Shimano 105 STI levers there. I like that they're black, but they just don't work well on the moustache bar. They kick out a bit, which becomes kicking up on the moustache bar - not good.
I need some old non-shifter-integrated levers insead.
I picked up a whole bin full of parts that was someone else's unfufilled project. Cranks, seats, hubs bar tape, brakes, tools, lube - nearly everything but a frame and wheels. One of the prizes were Shimano 105 SLR levers, with brand new rubber hoods.
Missing though was the clamp to mount the levers. I figured maybe I could use the clamps in my STI 105 levers, but no...
On the far right I've discovered that the little nut that squares up a presta valve to the rim, which most people probably throw away, is a perfect fit. All I had to do was file it down a bit and we're good to go.
Except no.
It didn't work. There's something about the shape of this clamp - the bolt needs to be 1/8" longer in order to grab the custom nut and still have enough play in it to get it on the bar. So I'm guess I'm back to the newer STI versions of the 105 levers.
Or I could buy one clamp on eBay for $20, which is expensive I think, but ok.
Except no.
I refuse to pay $44 for shipping on something that can go in a damn envelope.
